Two Pipes Systems

Two Pipes central heating system

In this type of system there are separate flow and return pipe for each radiator and also to cylinder connected to the boiler. Once the heated water passed through a radiator, it does not pass through another but it goes directly back to boiler for re-heating. This method helps (a) to maintain the water temperature near boiler flow temperature to all radiators. (b) Heated water can be circulated at high speed through each radiator. These enable relatively small radiators to provide high heat output.

The flow and return connections can be at bottom ends of the radiator. The system is easier to balance at any temperature, if radiator have control valve or lockshield valve (refer radiator section for detail) to regulate the water flow through the radiator, this is now the standard installation method, otherwise those nearest to the pump would take more than their share of heated water, causing a ‘short circuit’, and rob heat from radiators farther away.  Extra radiators can be added to the system.
